Are You Sure You Want To Delete?

I think I made a big mistake. I was rushing to get my website hosted on my domain before the deadline  for my Information Systems Class and I accidently added my html folder straight to the general file upload directory instead of the public html. When I realized my mistake, I just clicked delete. And it sent me a message saying something along the lines of, “Are you sure you want to delete instead of put into trash as it will be deleted forever.” I thought it would just delete it from the BYU Domains site and not off my computer. While trying to upload my website, I noticed I didn’t have some of my html files anymore. I have all of my .css files but not my html files.

As a result of this mistake, I ended up not going to sleep till 7:30 in the morning. I learned a very valuable lesson. ALWAYS SAVE YOUR WORK! Furthermore, it is not a bad idea to consider backing up all of your data. I know last night it would have been worth its weight in gold.

I know in the future I will definitely be more carefully when handing such important documents in the future. I would also recommend to anyone to read carefully whenever a popup says, “Are you sure you want to delete?” If you follow this counsel, I know one day in the future you will thank me.

  1. That project was the worst! I thought I had it bad when I deleted the public_html folder from BYU domains permanently. I ended up having to host my website on my cousins domain because I no longer had the correct files under my domain. I couldn't agree more to think twice before deciding if you want to delete something!

  2. Wowww, I feel for you man! That's definitely a lesson that I have had to learn time after time again. I can't think of a worse feeling for millennials than having all your work deleted; maybe the only thing on par is dropping your phone screen-first.

  3. Man, that really sucks. Yes, always save everything. On her mission, my wife had all of her mission pictures deleted and so she remembers to make a back up important things.
